Genres

  • Ballet

Ballet is an elegant and highly technical style of dance that uses its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Here at The Little Dance World, we teach ballet based on the style of the Royal Academy of Dance.

  • Jazz

Jazz is a fun, fast-paced dance style usually paired up with popular upbeat music. This style draws from elements in other styles such as ballet, modern, and hip-hop.

  • Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a broad dance form that combines the strong technical elements of ballet with modern dance's stress on the torso, and strong accents of jazz dance. Common movements found in contemporary dances include floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.

  • Lyrical Jazz

Lyrical jazz is a style that combines the fluid, expressive movements of lyrical with the sharp, energetic movements of jazz. It is often performed to slower, more emotional music and emphasizes the storytelling aspect of dance. The movements are typically graceful, flowing, and often incorporate elements of ballet technique.

  • Hip Hop

Hip-hop is a popular style of dance with sharp impactful movements done to the hip-hop genre of music. This is a style that is fun for dancers of all levels.

  • Tumbling

While not formally a dance style, we also offer tumbling at The Little Dance World. Our experienced instructor Mr. Michael uses floor mats that allow students to safely learn floor tumbling tricks. Tumbling helps dancers improve their coordination, flexibility, and core strength.

  • Chinese Folkloric

We pride ourselves in offering authentic Chinese folkloric dance choreographed to traditional as well as contemporary Chinese music. Chinese folkloric is vibrant and features bright costumes and fun props such as fans, drums, and umbrellas. Chinese Folkloric is available in private lessons by request.

  • Musical Theater

Musical theater is a style that combines dance with acting and results in a fun theatrical style that is as much fun to perform as it is to watch. It allows dancers to learn to be more expressive and step into the shoes of various characters.
